Why All Phenomena Arise From the Mind

When people hear the saying "all phenomena arise from the mind", many misunderstand it as meaning the world is created purely by imagination, and reality changes according to our wishes. That is not its true meaning.

It does not deny the existence of the outside world. Instead, it tells us that events themselves carry no fixed label of good or bad. All joy, sorrow, suffering and delight are feelings shaped by our own understanding, emotion and attachment.

Circumstances are just conditions. What traps or heals us is never the event itself, but the way we see it.

Something simply happens.
If you feel hurt, resentment arises.
If you treat it as growth, you choose to let go.

The outer world is like reflections on water. Reflections are neither right nor wrong. What ripples is our inner mind. Most of our suffering comes not from reality, but from our own expectations, prejudice, clinging and inability to accept change.

Spiritual practice is not about changing the whole world, but calming our own mind.
When we stop being driven by greed, fear and bias, we gradually break free from emotional bondage.
Circumstances shift with our state of heart. To know that all phenomena arise from the mind is to observe our thoughts, and finally learn to make peace with ourselves.
