What is the "Present": The Art of Living in the Moment

We always dwell on the past and anxiety about the future yet to come, yet we often overlook the "present" that is unfolding right under our feet.

The present is not an abstract time concept. It is the wind brushing your fingertips, the rhythm of your breathing, the fleeting light and shadow before your eyes. It is the fragment we rush past, yet it forms the whole background of our life.

Living in the moment does not mean abandoning planning or reflection. It means freeing ourselves from obsession. We stop lingering on yesterday’s regrets and panicking about tomorrow’s uncertainties, and anchor our attention to the here and now—the simple meals, the rise and fall of each breath. The essence of art lies exactly in capturing this fleeting authenticity: painters freeze the moment of light and shadow, poets write down instant emotions, musicians catch the beat of a heartbeat, all as an ode to the present.

All our gains and losses, joys and sorrows in life, ultimately settle in every vivid present. Learning to be with the moment is to understand the most simple art of living.
